Trend Alert!

Cameos have made a huge comeback in fashion recently. People are rummaging through Grandma's jewelry chest and finding items such as multi-strand baroque pearls and cameos to add juxtaposition to their modern outfits. Everywhere you look on television, people are attending auctions and bidding on time capsule pieces to cherish the history behind a family name and talent. It is our honor and duty to maintain these ancient crafts and keep our ancestors memory alive.

These are Italian Venetian cameo designs from the original 18th century molds exclusively maintained by the Tagliamonte family. They are reproductions produced in (Murano) Venice in glass, metal, and porcelain for modern jewelry (such as seen in Bvlgari jewelry). Each piece is hand crafted using master cameo casting techniques which takes years of experience to craft. These techniques can be traced back to the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia, and took 5 years of research to revive.

Presenting The Ancient Tagliamonte Venetian Cameo Line for the modern woman! Now you can own a piece of history too! Visit www.hotrockjewelry.com for more styles like this one above!

It has been scientifically proven that just like stones from the earth, the human body is made of a crystalline structure. With this understanding, homeopathic doctors have began to more proactively encourage the healing qualities of gemstones. Since everything from heaven to earth, and dimension to dimension, functions through vibrations, we are now able to use the natural resources of energies to help us to heal in ways that we could never have thought possible before.

Hot Rock Jewelry is proud to offer the Gemstone Energy Medicine book by Michael Katz for $24.95 in store and online. It is filled with homeopathic remedies for healing the body, mind and spirit. You may call us to place an order or find the book on our website at www.hotrockjewelry.com under the Misc. section.

Emerald

Emerald is a variety of the Beryl family. It appears translucent, highly included, can be light to very dark green and sometimes very dark blue-green. They generally come from Columbia, Russia, Siberia, Brazil or Zambia. Emeralds get their Green color generally from chromium or vanadium (but less likely) and rarely from both! These little beauties may be enhanced by oiling or dying, and some are even synthetic so be careful when buying! And NEVER clean your Emeralds in the ultrasonic or steamer machines! Just a light soapy bath will do the trick for these gemstones.

Healing Qualities:

Emerald is considered the gemstone with the most healing characteristics for the physical body. It works to strengthen ones physical weaknesses in order to help them to heal spiritually, emotionally and mentally. It is applicable for chronic diseases and illness, cancers, intense bouts of fatigue due to physical and acute illness, troubled internal organs and malignant or benign Tumors.  For it’s full potential, it is suggested that emerald be used in addition to other forms of healing therapies.

In our Store:

Design your own ring with us! We have a lovely green colored, loose emerald, 2.79cts untreated natural gemstone from Afghanistan. We also have gemstone quality emerald beads which we can make into a beautiful one-of-a-kind necklace for you! You always get to be a part of the design process at Hot Rock Jewelry.

So what do you do if you don’t have any attraction to Emeralds? Maybe you'd enjoy another green healing gemstone instead! Like: light and dark green Aventurine(light: uplifts physical body, dark: purifies the physical body), Malachite(harmonizes the body), green Tourmaline(empowers the masculine).

Pearl

The most beautiful and feminine thing that a woman can wear is a strand of Pearls.

They come in all shapes and sizes, like us gals, and ooze with romance, love, tenderness, and a warmness that no other gem could deliver. This is one of the few kinds of gems that can be naturally created by a live organism. That is why we find them so special to us.

Pearls are found in both salt and fresh water and are formed in the sexual organs of mollusks when an irritant or parasite disturbs the creature. The mollusk then coats the irritant in a pearly nacre. Natural organic round pearls are very rare. Most pearls found in nature are baroque in shape due to the inconsistent distribution and application of the nacre inside of the mollusk. Natural pearls can come in almost any color, generally with overtones of typically rose, green or blue colors. Interestingly enough, the color of the lip of the mullosk determins the color of the pearl that you will find inside.

Other pearls are cultivated in farms and have been assisted by man to design perfectly round shaped pearls. This is done by inserting a perfectly round nucleus which has the same composition of the organic nacre. There are many animal rights activists that oppose the farming of pearls and consider it as abuse. There are also many forms of imitation pearls for those folks.

You may find that department stores and much of the fashion jewelry on the market uses glass or plastic imitation pearls. These materials are less expensive, but be careful, some less than nobel businesses may try to pass off the fake pearly designs at real pearly prices! There are some simple and quick ways to make sure that you are getting what you pay for. 1) Inspect the holes of the pearl beads for pealing paint, discoloration or blotchy dye. 2) Real pearls should never touch metals or other beads for fear of scratching. So if they are stranded on anything other than silk, then that's a big red flag! 3) Glass & plastic imitation pearls feel very smooth against the teeth in comparison to a real pearl which may feel a bit more gritty to the rough edges of our teeth.

We can not stress enough that natural pearls are delicate. They will scratch easily if abused. Also, they can be ruined by perfumes, hairspray or any type of chemical with acid in it. It will ruin the nacre! For care and cleaning, a well loved strand of pearls may need to be restrung every 1 to 2 years. For cleaning, dip or rub softly with mild soap and room temperature water and set on a towel on a flat counter top to dry so that the silk does not get stretched from the weight. Pearls love to be pampered!

Healing  Qualities:

Here we will discuss MOP (Mother of Pearl) because it is the root of the creation of pearls and therefore has much stronger healing qualities. MOP is the actual shell of the mollusk and has it's own natural beauty in it's rainbow nacre like surface. Like a nurturing mother, MOP  helps for calming the spirit and protects one against negative energies. It induces feelings of love and tender thoughts to help us feel more at ease in traumatic situations. It can help us in expressing love and can help to balance our child-like emotional needs. It is very good for children.

In our Store:

Shown above, South Seas Faceted White Pearl Necklace.  These natural pearls have a thick nacre which allows for facets to be cut on the surface, just like you would see on a gemstone! They are very unique, truly a collectors piece that's stunningly beautiful! There are also two pearls available for custom earrings to match. The strand is 19 inches in length and has graduated size beads from 12mm to 18mm, with a beautiful 14K White Gold hammered ball clasp with Mele Diamonds. If you would like this beautiful necklace as part of your elegant collection, you may purchase it in our store -or- follow this link to purchase it online.

You may find some MOP pieces on our website atwww.hotrockjewelry.com, but for custom designs we suggest that you visit our location during store hours!

Diamond

You know what they say, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”.  What makes these little sparkling beauties so valuable and sometimes priceless to the wearer?

Diamonds are carbon, just like the graphite in our pencils! The crystalline arrangement is what sets Diamonds apart from those pencils. The structure is a lattice pattern which creates an incredibly strong bind between the atoms. This is why they are a 10 on the Mohs Hardness Scale and what makes them the hardest of all gemstones! This also makes these gemstones ideal for everyday wear and great in engagement and wedding rings.

They come in many shapes, cuts, sizes, quality and colors. The rarest color is red followed by blues and purples, all of which are subtle. Deeper hues command a very large price tag. The most common color of diamond is actually black and is generally used for industrial purposes! There has been a recent trend and renaissance of black diamonds in fashionable jewelry.

Diamonds are graded under a 10X magnification using the famous four C’s; Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat size. The price of diamonds (and gold) is on the rise because of very strong demand in China and India. It’s best to deal with a trustworthy and honest professional when trying to purchase your diamonds. Hot Rock Jewelry believes strongly in disclosure- personally and amongst our industry.

If you just couldn’t make it to Christie’s New York “Magnificent Jewels” sale on Tuesday April 12th, FEAR NOT! The 10.09ct fancy, vivid, purplish- pink Diamond ring is still available for a cool 12Million Dollars!!!

Healing  Qualities:

Diamonds best represents love and romance. It supports mental and artistic clarity, helps to manifest good fortune and amplifies all rainbow-colored energies for any gemstones (could be good, could be bad.)

In our Store:

Sliced diamonds are in high demand by fashionable trend setters. Linda Rocco, owner of Hot Rock Jewelry and a GIA Graduate Gemologist, has designed a beautiful set of sliced diamond earring ($7,470 5.27cts slices, 1.11ctw accent diamonds, 18K Gold) and Necklace ($13K  9.29cts slices, 2.06ctw accent diamonds, 18K Gold) which is on display in the Hot Rock Jewelry show room.

Garnets

January is for Garnets
Garnets come in a large variety of color and types! For garnet to have healing qualities it must be of deep color and clarity. Garnets help you to protect yourself from attacks from others. Being a woman myself you probably didn't know that by age 50, almost 85% of women will have been attacked. That's unacceptable to me. So you can wear garnet for protection, or buy a stun gun from me too for protection. Either way, you will win!
